Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed an executive order establishing the Florida Semiconductor Development Authority, a new state agency tasked with attracting chip manufacturing investment and developing a semiconductor workforce pipeline. The authority will be funded with $500 million from state reserves and empowered to offer tax incentives, infrastructure grants, and workforce training programs.
The move positions Florida as a direct competitor to Texas, Arizona, and Ohio in the race to attract semiconductor fabrication facilities. Several major chipmakers, including GlobalFoundries and Texas Instruments, have reportedly expressed interest in exploring Florida sites following the announcement.
