Texas Governor has signed into law the most restrictive social media legislation in US history, banning all social media access for children under 16 with mandatory age verification requirements.
The Law
Social media companies must implement government-approved age verification systems. Parents cannot consent on behalf of children under 16. Violations carry fines of $10,000 per incident for platforms.
Legal Challenge Expected
Meta, TikTok, and Snap have announced plans to challenge the law as unconstitutional. The ACLU is also filing suit, arguing the law violates First Amendment rights.
