The Detroit City Council has approved a $500 million downtown revitalization plan that will transform 12 blocks of underused commercial space into a mixed-use district featuring housing, retail, and public green space. Construction is expected to begin in late 2026.

The project will create an estimated 3,000 construction jobs and 1,500 permanent positions. City officials say 20 percent of new housing units will be designated as affordable under the city's inclusionary zoning requirements.
